What is PEP? Is it different than PrEP?

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

PEP is the use of antiretroviral drugs after a single high-risk event to stop HIV seroconversion. PEP must be started as soon as possible to be effective—and always within 72 hours of a possible exposure.

PrEP vs PEP

What’s-the-Difference-Between-PrEP-and-P

What is the difference between PrEP and PEP?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis is also known as PrEP. It is an HIV prevention medication in which HIV-negative people take an oral pill once a day before coming into contact with HIV. This helps to reduce their risk of HIV infection. The drug must be taken for at least 7 days to reach optimal levels of protection against HIV.

This contrasts post-exposure prophylaxis also known as PEP. PEP is an HIV prevention strategy in which HIV-negative people take anti-HIV medications after coming into contact with HIV to reduce their risk of HIV infection. PEP must be started within 72 hours after HIV exposure.

Buddies has alot to be proud of…

Buddies of New Jersey hosted Bergen/Passaic’s location of the NJAW: Ending Epidemics Together Walk raising over 50G locally and nearly 300 statewide to address issues of hunger, poverty, homelessness, addiction, mental health and more. These issues contribute to the spread of HIV and cause negative health outcomes to underserved communities.

Buddies of New Jersey has a lot to be proud of this upcoming June for pride month!

Tons of organization and care went into the planning of this reinvigorated day.  Our sponsors, the volunteers from the community as well as staff members show the depth of commitment we have to stopping HIV and caring for one another.

Do your part in stopping the spread of HIV by testing regularly and encouraging others to do the same. Let others know about PrEP.  And most importantly care for one another as if they were in your own family!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS, PARTICIPATION & SUPPORT!
